Birding for Beginners
Do you enjoy watching birds, but have a hard time telling blue jays from bluebirds? Do you have children who are interested in learning more about birds? Then visit GNC for a family-friendly, beginner’s lesson in identifying common Ohio birds. Learn how to identify cardinals, blue jays, bluebirds, chickadees and woodpeckers, as well as having the opportunity to see migrating species such as vireos, warblers, and thrushes!

10am-12pm
Family Hike & Critter Hunt
A fun family exploration for cool plants and sneaky critters! We will take a hike around the nature center property exploring the woods, prairies, and ponds. Who knows what amazing things that we might discover!
All ages welcome.

12pm-2pm
Functional Sustainability #1: Making Your Home Environmentally Friendly
Join the RCPD staff, along with special guests, as we show you ways that you can work to make your home environmentally friendly!
In session #1, we will show you how to eliminate harmful chemicals and toxic products from your household, including cleaners, polishes, soaps, detergents, dryer sheets, sanitizing agents and much more, by introducing you to the Norwex line of products.
We will also introduce everyone to the wonders of solar power! Learn from a local expert the benefits of solar power for your home and tour the nature center to see how solar power benefits the park district.

2pm-4pm
Hands On Animals
An exciting finale to Saturday's Mohican Wildlife Weekend activities! Enjoy the experience of touching, holding, and learning about some of Gorman Nature Center's resident reptiles and amphibians. All of GNC's educational animals are native to the Richland County area.
This program is enjoyed by and suitable for all ages.

Sunday, April 29th

8am-10am
Natural History Free-for-All
Join us for an exciting journey around the Gorman Nature Center property. No stone will be left unturned, as we search for any and all things relating to natural history. We will search the grounds of GNC for mammals, birds, reptiles, amphibians, invertebrates, plants, mosses, lichens, rocks, minerals, fossils and more! With so much to look at, we may not get very far, but you will certainly learn a great deal! Make sure to bring along your mysterious natural history objects that you have questions about, too, so you can try and stump the naturalist!

10am-12pm
Exploring the Wonderful World of Lichens!
Lichens are some of the most widely distributed and interesting entities in the natural world! Did you know that lichens are a great example of symbiosis? This is because a fungus and an alga live together in close proximity, both benefiting, and forming different lichen species? North America is home to over 3,600 species of lichens, while Ohio is home to nearly 500 different species of macro and micro lichens. Come enjoy and explore the wonderful world of lichens at Gorman Nature Center as we explore different habitats searching for these amazing organisms!

12pm-2pm
