Aileen writes:Shelby Farmers Market Begins Annual Season.
Opening Day will be Saturday June 4th from nine to noon and the market will run every Saturday until October 1st at the Black Fork Commons Park in Shelby, OhioThe first Shelby Farmers’ Market was established on June 16th, 2008 and was managed by Denny Kurtzman of Tres Den Jewelers.
In the middle of 2010, Dave Ernst, a respected local organic farmer took over as manager of the market. Under Dave’s management, the market grew and joined forces with the Hazel Grove Community Farm Bureau which brought the Farm to Plate demonstrations to the market in 2014.
In 2015, Dave handed off management responsibilities to local children’s author and baking enthusiast, Aileen Stewart, who has heartily encouraged local children to get involved in the market as well as adults.
The market offers the entire Shelby community as well as surrounding communities another reason to head down town where they can mingle, catch up with friends, and shop. The market vendors include jam makers, maple syrup vendors, bakers, fruit and vegetable vendors, as well as local craft persons offering various items like rope bowls, hand carved wooden items, custom designed jewelry, and much more.
