Title:Nature Encounters

Description:

Each Saturday the Ohio Bird Sanctuary offers free "Nature Encounters".  Come enjoy a short presentation by one of the volunteers or staff starring one of the resident birds that have come to the sanctuary and could not be released back into the wild after rehabilitation.

You will learn about the species, what they eat, how they hunt, how they live, and their typical activities in the wild.

The Ohio Bird Sanctuary is a 501(3) non-profit organization which is dedicated to the rehabilitation of Ohio's native birds of prey and songbirds, with an emphasis on educating the community about conservation of our natural resources.

The Bird Sanctuary is open to the public and encompasses over 90 acres including; hiking trails, live bird of prey displays, and a walk-through songbird aviary. Visitors can purchase a small cup of meal worms in the Visitor Center and hand feed the aviary residents.

  • Sunday - Noon to 4:00pm

Title:Mansfield OH Parkrun

Description:

Parkrun organizes free, timed 5k runs every week in over 900 locations around the world. Same time, same place and at no cost. Ever. Free one-time registration gives you a unique bar code which is used to track participation and your run times. Parkrun is open to all - young, old, runners, walkers, joggers.

Mansfield, Ohio, Parkruns are a free, non-competitive 5K every Saturday (starting Jan. 21) from North Lake Park at 9 am. All ages and abilities welcome.

We invite you to join us January 21 at any participation level that is comfortable for you. Meet new friends or dedicate that time to be active on your own. Run, walk or jog there is no requirement!

What is Mansfield OH parkrun?

It is a 5km run - it's you against the clock.

When is it?

Every Saturday at 9:00am (October through April)
8:00am (May through September).

Where is it?

The event takes place at North Lake Park, 270 Rae Ave, Mansfield, OH 44903. .See Course page for more details

What does it cost to join in?

Nothing - it's free! but please register before your first run. Only ever register with parkrun once. Don't forget to bring a printed copy of your barcode (request a reminder). If you forget it, you won't get a time.

How fast do I have to be?

We all run for our own enjoyment. Please come along and join in whatever your pace!

Learn from Malabar's Spinners and Weavers, the skills of Fiber Art with hands-on demonstrations throughout the day.

Even before Louis Bromfield the countryside of Malabar Farm famous this land had a fascinating history. Join us for a walk through Malabar's hills and valleys, hear tales and visit sites that will bring history to life.

Edible Plants of Early Ohio Settlers     May 6     2pm - 3pm  FREE PREREGISTRATION IS NOT REQUIRED, BUT SPACE IS LIMITED
Travel back in time with Wild Ginger and learn about the edible plants that the early Ohio settlers would have grown in their garden and harvested from the wild. Learn about the history and uses of our local native and introduced plants. This program might even give you some ideas for your own garden at home.

Enjoy old fashioned bean soup served with cornbread.

Dare to Explore the "normal to paranormal" while exploring murders, cemeteries and haunted houses. End the night with hot dogs and S'mores while sharing stories around the campfire.

Picnic with Laura Ingalls Wilder     May 7     11am & 1pm  $10 (Ages 1-12) $20 (Ages 13+) Pre-Registration is Required. Call Victoria Cochran, 419-892-2929
Join the famous author for a picnic at the Pugh Cabin! Guests will be served picnic food while enjoying the story of the life and books of Laura Ingalls Wilder.

Eyewitness to History: The Ceely Rose Case     May 7     3pm  FREE Preregistration is suggested for a guaranteed spot, additional audience members will be accommodated as space allows.  To preregister call 419-892-2784
Examine the 1896 Rose family murder case in the actual house where events unfolded, with emphasis on eyewitness accounts. Storyteller Mark Sebastian Jordan will use period newspaper articles, photographs and artifacts to bring the disturbing case to life.

At 10am, Executive Director Chuck Gleaves will give a Guided Garden Tour.

Title:OSR Public Ghost Hunt

Description:

Saturday, May 6th the Ohio State Reformatory offers Ghost Hunts®;  serious yet informal attempts to document paranormal activity at the castle-like, former prison. Ghost Hunts provide an unusual, first-hand experience to search other realms. Ghost Hunts at OSR are the first of their kind in the United States.

Public Hunt admission is $70* per person and includes access to the building from 7:00 pm until 1:00 am and a late dinner of pizza and soda.  Complimentary water, soda, coffee and hot chocolate available throughout the evening.

  • Gates open 6 pm
  • Check in at the Gift Shop between 6 pm - 7 pm
  • Guided tour of facility 7 pm - 8 pm 
  • Independent investigating 8 pm - 3 am
  • Must be 18 and over to participate

*The building contains hazards including, but not limited to steep steps, uneven surfaces, and lead-based paint.  It is not recommended for pregnant women. Sleeping during a hunt is prohibited. All participants will be required to sign in at check in and present a valid photo ID.

*Any changes to participant registration can be made at the registration table on the day of the hunt. Replacement participants must be at least 18 years of age and provide a photo ID.

*Please note, there are no physical tickets for ghost events. An email confirmation is sent automatically to the person who registered. All registered participants will check in with a photo ID.

Title:72nd Annual May Show

Description:

The 72nd Annual May Show is a juried exhibition showcasing the talent of Ohio artists in a variety of media.



The 2017 guest juror is Tom Hale,  an award winning watercolor artist and automotive styling designer from Michigan.

Tom received his Bachelor of Science degree, with honors, from The Art Center School in Los Angeles. He was employed as a styling designer for a major automobile corporation until 1985, when he left the corporate world to pursue his art career full time.

His paintings have earned him many awards, including a Gold Medal of Honor from the American Watercolor Society. His work has been shown extensively throughout the United States, and he has completed over 3100 paintings,  most of which are now in private and corporate art collections.
